The September Sweater is knitted top down in brioche stitch. First, the back is worked by picking up stitches at the neck and then knitting them in rows with increases on both sides. Then, stitches for the shoulders are picked up and worked separately before being joined to form the front. The front and back meet under the armholes, forming the body, which is then knitted in the round on a circular needle. Subsequently, stitches are picked up around the armholes with a short circular needle and knitted downwards in the round with decreases. Finally, stitches are picked up around the neckline for the ribbing edge. This edge is folded double and knitted on the inside. The September Sweater thus requires almost no seaming.

Please make a gauge swatch first, before you start knitting the actual garment, to determine the correct needle size for you. Keep in mind that due to its elasticity, the brioche stitch is difficult to measure – take measurements several times for all specified distances.

Size Guide

The September Sweater should have a positive ease of approx. 15 cm relative to your bust circumference. Sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL correspond to a bust circumference on your own body of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 (130-140) 140-150 cm. The measurements of the finished sweater can be found on the front of the pattern. First, measure yourself before you start knitting to ensure you choose the correct size. If your bust circumference (or the widest part of your body) measures 97 cm, you should choose size L. A sweater in size L has a bust circumference of 113 cm and would, in this case, have a positive ease of 16 cm.

The model shown is wearing size XS and has a bust circumference of 82 cm and is 1.64 m tall.

Keep in mind that the brioche stitch will stretch slightly after washing and wearing. Therefore, you can expect your September Sweater to grow by approx. 5-8 cm in relation to the bust circumference stated on the front of this pattern.
