The Melange Sweater Junior is worked top down. The back is worked first in stockinette stitch back and forth, then stitches are picked up for the front. The front and back are joined under the armholes to work the body in the round on a circular needle. Stitches are picked up for the sleeves and for a folded neckband at the neck opening. The sweater does not require any seaming at the end. The Melange Sweater Junior is knitted using two strands of thin wool yarn; the contrasting colours create the melange effect.

The Melange Sweater Junior is designed to have approximately 20 cm (8 inches) of positive ease in relation to the chest circumference. Sizes 1-2 (2-3) 3-4 (4-5) 5-6 (6-7) 7-8 (8-9) 9-10 (10-11) 11-12 (12-13) 13-14 years correspond to a body chest circumference of approximately 53 (54) 56 (57) 59 (62) 64 (68) 72 (75) 78 (80) 82 cm (20.75 (21.25) 22 (22.5) 23.25 (24.5) 25.25 (26.75) 28.25 (29.5) 30.75 (31.5) 32.25 inches). The measurements of the finished sweater can be found on the front page (note that these measurements only apply if the gauge is adhered to). If you/the recipient has a chest circumference of 62 cm (24.5 inches), you should choose size 6-7 years. A sweater in size 6-7 years has a chest circumference of 82 cm (32.25 inches) and would therefore have a positive ease of 20 cm (8 inches). If the measured chest circumference deviates from the age indication, you should adjust the length to the person being knitted for. The same applies if the child is smaller/taller than average.
